The United States faces a housing shortage of 4 to 8 million homes. On July 24, 2025, President Trump signed an executive order titled “Ending Crime and Disorder on America’s Streets.” The order reversed several decades of federal policy toward the homeless, which had been geared toward creating more permanent housing and more voluntary services.
